1864 Base Ball!
March 23 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pmFree
Woodland will be hosting TWO games on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019. Come out and watch how the game was meant to be played before personal statistics and big money contracts became so important. Base ball was a game of exercise and recreation. The pitching was underhanded. Balls that hit the ground fair were considered fair balls regardless of where they roll after they hit the ground. And if you’re in the outfield, you can let the ball hit the ground one time and if you catch it off that bounce, you get the striker out! This is important because we don’t wear gloves in this game!
Would you like to try out barehanded base ball? It’s SO much fun and it’s completely FREE thanks to grants received from California Humanities and the Schwemm Family Foundation. No experience necessary! But if you’d rather watch than play, just grab a blanket or a folding chair and join us for 2 games. The Athletic Base Ball Club of Woodland will host the Aetna Base Ball Club of Dixon. Then, after a short break, The Oleta Base Ball Club of Davisville will square off against the Sacramento Base Ball Club.
